2026 March 22nd - Morning Sermon Reflection:Finding True Freedom in Trusting God

Finding True Freedom in Trusting God

In today’s world, we are constantly told that freedom means having complete control over our lives. We are encouraged to make our own choices, follow our hearts, and define our own truth. But as I listened to this Sunday morning's sermon on Genesis 24, I was challenged to rethink what true freedom really means.

The story of Isaac and Rebekah does not look like freedom at first glance. It involves an arranged marriage, a servant praying for guidance, and a young woman leaving everything behind to marry someone she has never met. From a modern perspective, this can feel uncomfortable—even restrictive.

But the deeper message of Genesis 24 reveals something powerful: we are never truly independent. Even when we think we are making our own decisions, we are still depending on something—our feelings, our past experiences, or our limited understanding.

Abraham trusted God’s promises rather than relying on his own control. The servant depended on God through prayer instead of leaning on his own wisdom. Rebekah responded in faith, choosing to trust what she had heard about God’s work.

This made me reflect on my own life. I often feel anxious when making decisions, worrying about making the wrong choice. But perhaps that anxiety comes from believing that everything depends on me. Genesis 24 reminds us that God is already at work, even in the ordinary details of life.

Another important lesson is that obedience to God is not always easy. We sometimes assume that if something is God’s will, it should feel comfortable. But true obedience can be costly. Yet it leads to a deeper peace and joy that cannot be found in self-direction.

In the end, Isaac loved Rebekah, and their relationship brought comfort and healing. This shows us that joy is not always immediate—it often grows through faithfulness and commitment.

Ultimately, true freedom is not found in controlling our lives, but in trusting the One who already holds our lives in His hands. When we surrender to God, we are not losing ourselves—we are finally finding where we truly belong.

May we learn to trust more, pray more, and rest in God’s perfect plan.
